Worker Wednesday: Ishmael Menns

Tell us about your Lithko career journey. What is your current role and how did you get there.

I was hired during my senior year at NJIT as a laborer in January 2019. I worked on all our Alston New Jersey projects along with a precast project in Kearny, NJ. Additionally, I traveled down to Jessup, Maryland to work on a slab on grade Freezer project. I was moved up to a project engineer this past summer and I am currently working on the Segme Alston project in Edison, NJ.

Tell us about your family, people in your life that supports you.

My parents, mother from Barbados and father from Jamaica, migrated from the Caribbean in the 80’s in search of a better life and more opportunity for me and my siblings. My father migrated to Brooklyn, New York to stay with my late grandmother. He worked as a DJ and part time in the restaurant business. My mother came to New Jersey to attend community college and later, became a teacher at New Brunswick High school. My father currently drives a school bus in the same district.  I have three sisters and three brothers. One of my older sisters is in the National Guard and the other  is a lawyer in Europe. One brother owns a car hauling business in Connecticut and the other is a lawyer in Brooklyn.  My other older brother is a factory line engineer. My younger sister is finishing Graduate school at Salis University, where she is studying to be an occupational therapist.  One of my favorite hobbies is binary trading on the stock market. I picked it up my junior year at NJIT. It’s a good way to keep my mind working after work.
