UK Cancer Treatment Center & Advanced Ambulatory Center

The UK Cancer Center in Lexington, KY is a complex healthcare construction project delivering an 8-story oncology facility with advanced structural concrete systems. Early challenges, including weather, deep foundations, unsuitable soils, and MEP coordination delays, were mitigated through strategic resequencing and collaboration, allowing the team to recover nearly three months of schedule. 

Key features include mass concrete radiation (LINAC) vaults with walls up to eight feet thick, a Heavy-Duty Radiation Vault (HDR) with stainless steel reinforcing, a connector bridge to an adjacent hospital, and structural support for prefabricated patient rooms requiring strict floor tolerances. 

Lithko implemented value engineering solutions, optimized concrete placement sequencing, and partnered with mix design experts to ensure performance. A rigorous QA/QC program and ongoing BIM coordination ensured precision, compliance, and alignment across trades.
