AC Ballantyne Village
The new mixed used development will bring an AC Marriott, 6 floors of office space, and a rooftop restaurant to Ballantyne Village. Our Lithko Charlotte Burg installed large mat foundations, slab on grade, columns, retaining walls, 3 core walls, and cast in place PT elevated deck on the 15-story tower. The project also includes a 5-story addition to an existing parking garage. The garage scope included columns, crash walls, and elevated deck.
A unique challenge for the tower was that one of the core walls is within 5 inches of proximity to an existing building. We worked closely with our formwork vendor, Peri, to engineer and fabricate custom formwork to accommodate the tight space when forming and placing concrete in the core.
Sharing a single crane with two high production projects takes daily detailed coordination and planning. Our team identified this challenge during the project planning phase and developed a plan to primarily utilize the crane on the tower and designed the garage formwork so that forklifts could be used to cycle tables through the shored decks.
We topped out the tower on 10/6/20 and the garage will top out in early November.
