Kroger Distribution Center Addition
Kroger is expanding its distribution center in Aurora, CO by 177,00 square feet, adding 52 jobs to the area. We are installing the foundations, walls, piers, slab on grade, and sitework, which includes the dock apron, sidewalk, stoops, and light pole bases.
Since this is an expansion, we are working alongside a live building, which can bring many challenges. Our team had to designate specific routes for the construction trucks. We had to plan for a flagging system to ensure all trucks came in and out of the project correctly, not disrupting live operations.
To accommodate their racking system, the design includes 53,000 square feet of an automated (depressed) 16” thick slab that will sit 2’10’’ below the floor. The slab requires a tolerance of FF50/FL35. Typically, we would utilize a laser screed to achieve these numbers, but due to the depth of the slab and the double layer of rebar we could not use this placing method. Instead, we placed 4 long strips for the slab and utilized a roller screed to ensure we hit the desired tolerances. We recently finished the fourth placement and exceeded the FF50/FF35 requirement.
