Maplehurst Bakeries

Manufacturing

Headquartered in Brownsburg, Indiana, Maplehurst Bakeries, a division of Weston Foods, produces frozen bakery products. The company invested $77.8 million in this new facility in Lebanon, Indiana, which houses the warehouse, distribution and manufacturing operations for its cake and cupcake products. The plant is expected to create up to 219 new jobs by 2017.

Both Lithko and our customer, Duke Construction, had high expectations for the schedule, quality and customer satisfaction, so the bar was raised from the beginning of this project. It was a total concrete package, including foundations, stem walls, slab-on-grade, slab-on-deck, interior cubs, silo pads and site concrete.

We were responsible for 98,000 square feet of production floor with Ductilcrete floor slabs, 8,100 square feet of spiral coolers and a freezer, 12,000 square feet of office space, 58,000 square feet of freezer and cold dock areas, and 2,500 square feet of containment and silo slabs. By using the Ductilcrete Slab System, which has fewer slab-control joints, we reduced the food-processing facility’s maintenance and cleaning requirements.

Lithko’s internal and external communication processes were instrumental to this project, as plans were changed during construction. We also had to work through a bitterly cold winter. Even with these challenges, we still completed the project successfully and helped the Nashville BURG secure work for another Maplehurst Bakeries location in Tennessee.
