Project Toffee
Carvana, an online used car dealer, is expanding in Ohio. They are building a distribution facility in Heath that will eventually provide 400 jobs to the area. Lithko’s Columbus BURG installed the foundations, specialty slab on grade, paint booth/pits, car wash stations, and slab on metal deck.
Placements were a challenge due to the weather, tight areas, and multiple openings in the T-shaped building. The structure had to be built in segments, which required 40’ tall winter protection on the frame to accommodate all the openings. Furthermore, we had to ensure the level for the slab on grade matched the curbs we poured during the foundation phase. Our team adapted the pour plan to utilize line dragon pumps and concrete buggies, as well as executing each placement in different sections.
The pits included walls, sharp angles, and a structural deck that runs through them. Special grinding was needed to hold a robotic camera that allows customers to view the cars at a 360-viewing area. We worked with the camera installer to achieve the tolerances required.
Lastly, our customer utilized our team as general trades contractor. This is not typically in our scope, but we successfully worked their needs in our project plan.
